Title: Visiting Hours Author: MK Pairing: Sawada Shin x Yamaguchi Kumiko Fandom: Gokusen Theme: #14, Radio-Cassette Player Disclaimer: I don't own Gokusen. Has anyone ever questioned the cassette player? It seems a lot harder to me to put music on Ðtape- than on an MP3. >_> Yankumi stretched her arms high over her head and grinned widely. All of 3-D had passed their exams, and she'd given them their marks with pride. Shin's marks were, of course, stellar, but the others had really out-done themselves. She felt full to bursting with pride. It was weird to be in Shin's apartment during the day though. The black walls and dim lighting had made it seem smaller at night, even with only two people. During the day with five people, the one-room space seemed larger, but emptier. "What should we start with?" "We'll need to cover the mattress with something so it doesn't get dirty," Shinohara replied. "Then we'll put it in last, on top of everything else." Tetsu nodded. "And the kitchen stuffÑ" He opened one cupboard and scowled at what little there was, "Well, we should pack it with newspaper." Kyo was assessing the bed-frame. "Red Lion and I will take this down together. Shouldn't be too hard." And there in the middle of it, Shin looked a little awkward, but moving day usually had that affect on people from what she knew. He turned and flicked on the radio then looked around the space awkwardly. "Thank you," he said simply, and Shinohara beamed. Kyo simply laughed at Tetsu's scowl, and Yankumi held her hand palm down in front of herself. "Faito!" "O~!" They were halfway through boxing everything up when the knock came at the door. Yankumi had expected it to be the landlord, and maybe Shin did too, because he looked awfully surprised to find Kuma, Uchi, Noda and Minami outside. "What are you guys doing here?" Kuma grinned. "We'd never been to your apartment so we looked you up! But why's Yankumi here? And these otherÉ" Kuma trailed off as he caught sight of Kyo, and blanched. "Ya-YakuÑ" Shin slapped a hand over Kuma's mouth and Shinohara stepped forward. "Oh, the 3-D students! Congratulations on passing your exams!" Uchi, oblivious as always puffed up with pride while Yankumi freaked out. Kuma had been there the night he and Shin had "rescued" her from the Ooedo group, and supposedly she owed a scary Kyo money for her father's debts! Shin said something to Kuma off to one side in a mutter while Yankumi forced a grin. "We're helping Shin move!" "Eh? But I thought Shin said he never wanted to be anywhere near his father?" "Aa. I'm just moving closer to the college," he lied. Or maybe it wasn't exactly a lieÑShe did actually live closer to Kikawa than he did. By a fraction. "Oi," Tetsu spoke up. "This kidÉ looks like Minoru." He was staring at Kuma, and Kuma stared back looking as though he might once again wet his pants. Then Tetsu grinned. "You'll help me with the kitchen stuff." "Aa, then I'll take these two to help wrap the mattress up," Shinohara added, gesturing to Uchi and Noda. It was good to keep those two close to the police officer. If she was lucky, they wouldn't catch on. Kyo was showing Uchi his shark face. Uchi was oblivious. "Blondie, you're with Red Lion and me." So things went on normally as if her students and her yakuza family weren't all in one room helping Shin move, while Shinohara made eyes at Tetsu occasionally. She relaxed a tiny bit. The only real danger was that Kuma jumped every time he caught sight of Kyo, which, in a small apartment like this, was fairly often. Soon enough they had boxed up most of Shin's things, and Kyo, Shin and Minami had slowly gotten the bad frame down the stairs and outside into the truck. (Kyo said he had 'borrowed' it from a friend, but Yankumi had some doubts.) They piled the boxes inside the bed frame, then the wrapped mattress on top of that. Kyo likely wouldn't be able to see out the back window while he drove, but it should work out pretty well, especially if Shinohara went with him. The nine of them collapsed on the floor of Shin's now completely bare apartment, and Minami produced a bag of canned drinks that he had bought at the nearby convenience store. They drank deeply and stared at the empty walls, the bare space. It was sad, but even with all his things missing, not much had changed in the apartment. Shin's life had probably been very empty for a long time, and Yankumi felt sad to see it so clear before her. "What's your new place like, Shin-chan?" "Yeah! Invite us to visit sometime!" "It'sÉ interesting," he replied with a small smile, and really, that was the highest compliment. She exchanged a glance with him and felt warm. In the end, everything would work out.
